About the CSS Exam:

The CSS exam, or Central Superior Services exam, is a highly competitive assessment conducted annually by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) simultaneously throughout Pakistan, typically in February. The exam structure comprises a total of 1200 marks, equally divided into 600 marks dedicated to compulsory subjects and another 600 marks allocated to optional subjects. It is imperative to choose optional subjects judiciously from the specified groups listed on the FPSC website (also available within our app).

The application window usually opens on October 1st each year, with a deadline of October 30th for selecting optional subjects, completing the online submission, and dispatching the printed application to the FPSC office in Islamabad. It is advisable to complete this process preferably a week before the deadline to mitigate any last-minute rush.

The compulsory exams, each carrying 100 marks, include:

  • English Essay
  • English Precis & Composition
  • Islamic Studies (or Comparative Religion for non-Muslim candidates)
  • Pakistan Affairs
  • Current Affairs
  • General Science & Ability

Statistics from FPSC reveal that candidates often face challenges in English Essay or English Precis & Composition, with many clearing the exam after attempting it for the second or third time. Candidates under the age of 30 are permitted up to three attempts, except for government employees or residents of Azad Kashmir who have an age limit of 32.
